The Weblogmusic project presents quartets of video performances drawn from a “family tree” of influence—each video track was recorded while responding to other video performances in the same lineage. Our newest mix is titled Cartomancy, and it received a grant to create artwork in response to life during a modern pandemic. Reflecting on social isolation as well as a need for reliable advice in the face of uncertainty, the Cartomancy mix brings together musicians, performance artists, dancers, spoken-word performers, and visual artists, each responding to improvisational prompts delivered in the form of an oracle deck reading (similar to tarot card reading), using a custom deck of cards created by Elisabeth Blair specifically with this project and its topic in mind.
This project was funded in part by the Academy for Visual and Performing Arts at Texas A&M Univeristy.
